A properly installed asphalt driveway lasts 20 to 30 years when it's sealcoated on schedule and small cracks are addressed early.

Asphalt or concrete, which is better for my driveway?

For our climate in Orange County, asphalt flexes with freeze-thaw cycles, costs less, and is faster to install and repair. Concrete cracks harder when the ground moves and is significantly more expensive.

How thick should the asphalt and base be?

Residential driveways typically have a compacted stone base with 2 to 3 inches of asphalt. Commercial lots and heavy-traffic areas get a thicker base and a binder course under the top layer.

What's the difference between hot-mix and cold-patch?

Hot-mix is what we use for full driveways and lots. It bonds properly and lasts. Cold-patch is a temporary fix for potholes when hot-mix isn't available, like in winter.

When can I drive on my new driveway?

Walk on it after 24 hours, drive on it after 48 to 72 hours. Avoid parking in the same spot or turning the wheels while stopped for the first couple of weeks.

How soon should I sealcoat a new driveway?

Wait six to twelve months for the asphalt to cure, then sealcoat. After that, reseal every two to three years to protect against UV, water, and oil.

How do I take care of my driveway in winter?

Use a plastic shovel or a snowblower with rubber edges. Skip metal-edge plows and rock salt. Calcium chloride or sand is safer for the surface.
